I am an artist, curator, and writer with a master's degree in communications and cultural studies from York University. I have been a member of Friends of Chinatown since its inception in 2019. When I am not tied up at work, I am practicing to be one of the few female lion dancers in the city with the hopes to bless the Chinatown community with the courage and strength of the lion spirit. I was born from Cantonese parents fleeing the Vietnam War and was raised in a working class neighborhood in Toronto’s inner suburbs. Chinatown was the only place my family could receive social services, aid, and a good Chinese meal. The neighborhood played a significant role in caring for myself and my family and I hope to continue this care by fighting for its future.
